Director of the J. Craig Venter Institute, La Jolla Campus and Adjunct Professor of Pathology at the University of California, San Diego. He applies his deep knowledge of molecular biology and disease pathogenesis to develop novel computational and machine learning methods to explore the causes and treatments of cancer, immune-mediated and infectious diseases.

- An internationally-acclaimed research scientist, he has co-authored over 150 research articles published in major scientific journals in the areas of cancer, molecular immunology, infectious disease, molecular diagnostics, clinical data management, and computational and statistical methods development.
- Current research focuses on the application of advanced genomics and machine learning methods in the identification of diagnostic biomarkers and novel therapeutic targets.
- Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Human Longevity, Inc., a company focused on turning information into new discoveries that can inform health decisions leading to new treatment options, personalized health plans, and the potential for longer, healthier human lifespans.
